Student Company FAQs
What is the student company program?
The student company program at Genesee Dance is a performance focused group for students enrolled in our youth training program. Dancers in the company program meet for regular rehearsals in addition to attending technique classes. We have both a junior company (ages 8 to 10) and a senior company (age 11 to 18).
Who is eligible?
Genesee Dance Theatre students who are at age 8 to 18 (or senior in high school).
Must be currently enrolled in ballet class in level 2 or higher.
Invitation or requested audition only
What are the benefits?
Dancers in this program get more performance opportunities during the season beyond just one spring show. Company dancers are integral to our Nutcracker and are invited to perform at community events throughout the year. Working with their peers creates a sense of camaraderie similar to team sports.
Does my dancer have to be in the company to perform in The Nutcracker?
No, however company dancers get first priority for certain roles. The roles of gingerbread , party children, Fritz, soldiers, Clara, Lambs, and Act 2 divertissements will be cast from our company. Open auditions will be held for non-company dancers to fill other roles.
What is the cost?
There is NO FEE for the student company program this season! However, company members are required to participate in at least one fundraiser over the course of the season to help with production costs. Dancers must also keep accounts in good standing for regular class tuition to stay in the company program.
When are rehearsals?
Junior Company: Weds. 6:00 - 6:30 p.m.
Senior Company: Fridays 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Additional rehearsals are also required in the 2 - 3 week lead up to the show. Check back soon for this season’s Nutcracker schedule.
Do they do competitions?
At this time, we have no plans to participate in competitions. We may explore select ballet competition opportunities in the future, but in general the spirit of our program is focused on our own productions.
